Mission.

The Missouri-Illinois Telelearning Consortium (MITCO) is a regional network of higher education institutions committed to providing comprehensive and cost effective distance learning programs for the students they serve. The means to deliver MITCO's college credit courses at a distance include over the air broadcast on PBS station KETC, Channel 9, St. Louis, utilization of local origination cable television channels, video/audio cassette checkout,  electronic/ interactive classroom networks and Internet.

MITCO partners pool their resources to share the costs of licensing and broadcasting telecourse programming. In addition to financial support, MITCO institutions share administrative resources which include professional and technical support, coordination of course scheduling, participation in cooperative decisions in course selection and acquisition, and faculty and staff development programs.

From its beginnings in the Spring of 1980 with one class and an enrollment of fifty-three students, MITCO now offers over 50 courses and has served over 100,000 distance learners. Recognizing the need to continue to be at the forefront of instructional technology, MITCO is dedicated to offering its distance learners the latest in flexible, accessible and alternative course options, such as access to the Internet.

From telecourses to telelearning, the Missouri-Illinois Telelearning Consortium will continue to broaden its focus on providing quality distance learning to students in need.
